Bat mitzvah kit

Her bat mitzvah, filmed by everyone there, edited by us

She’ll want to see this again at thirty, so film it like she will. Pocket 4K cameras arrive charged and labeled, her friends and your family do the filming, we do the editing — and she gets a real film instead of a folder of clips nobody ever opens.

Your guests get a plan, not a lecture

Every bat mitzvah kit ships with table cards that explain the camera in one sentence and name six things worth pointing it at. Her friends will film each other regardless — the cards are there to make sure somebody also points one at the d'var Torah and the hora.

Her friends filmed each other for four hours straight. The editors found a thread in it that I never would have. She's watched it more times than the photos.

Still doing research? Or is the bat mitzvah later this year?

Join the list and we’ll send you a reminder in good time — while there is still room to plan it properly. We’ll also check whether there is anything we can help you work out before then.

A rough guess is fine. We only use it to time the reminder.

Bat Mitzvah specifics

She wants to hand cameras to her friends. Should we let her?

Yes. That's the design, and twelve-year-olds are the best operators we ship to — they film constantly, they film each other, and they don't perform for a camera the way adults do. One button starts and stops, the camera orients itself, and there is no phone, app or account involved.

Can we include footage from before the date?

Yes, and the kit arriving five days early is what makes it possible. Families use those days for the last practice at the kitchen table, the dress, the drive to the rehearsal. Send it back on the same cards and tell us in your notes — that material usually opens the film.

Will the Torah reading and the d'var Torah be intelligible?

Only if a camera is close. If your synagogue permits recording, put one camera in the front few rows with a clip-on mic rather than at the back with the family. A sanctuary is a big reverberant room and distance destroys speech long before it destroys picture.

Who approves the film before the family sees it?

Whoever you name — and on this event it's often her. Two rounds of notes are included on every order and you see a rough cut first, which is the right moment to pull a clip she'd rather nobody saw. Name her as the approver in your notes and we'll send the link to her.

She'd hate having a camera pointed at her all night.

Most of what comes back isn't pointed at her. It's her friends filming each other, the table she's not sitting at, the relatives in the hallway. She turns up in it constantly, but almost never as the subject — which is why this reads differently from a hired camera following her around.

What if there isn't enough footage to cut a film?

You don't pay for the edit. If the kit comes back without enough usable material to cut a film, the editing charge and every add-on are refunded in full. You keep paying only the kit rental — 20% of the package price, less than the rental is worth on its own — because the cameras were held and shipped for a date we couldn't book to anyone else. It's rare, and we show you what came back before we make that call.

These are the bat mitzvah questions. Booking, shipping, batteries, sound, returns and delivery are all answered in the full question list. Filming something else? See all event types. Want the numbers? See what filming a bat mitzvah costs where you live, with every figure sourced.
