Bar Mitzvah specifics
Can we film the service itself?
Depends entirely on your shul. Many don't permit recording on Shabbat, and some allow a fixed camera at the back with permission arranged in advance. Ask your rabbi before you plan around it. If the answer is no, the kit still covers everything from the kiddush onward, and a lot of families film the rehearsal instead.
The kids will not give the cameras back at the end of the night.
Assume that and plan for it. Name one adult as the collector, tell the DJ to call it before the last song, and count them into the case at the coat check. The cameras are labeled, so it's obvious which one is missing. You have five days to get the case in transit back to us.
How do we get the hora from inside the circle?
Wrist strap on, camera in one hand, and stay on the floor rather than under the chair. These are pocket-sized, so filming from inside the circle is a hand-held shot, not a rig. It's the one angle no tripod at the back of the ballroom will ever get.
We want every name audible during the candle lighting.
Put a clip-on mic on whoever is calling the names and keep one camera within a few feet of the cake table. A ballroom with a DJ running is a hostile room for audio, and the difference between a mic on the MC and a camera across the room is the difference between hearing thirteen names and hearing none.
The service is at the shul and the party is somewhere else.
Not an issue. The cameras go in a bag between venues — no cases to strike, no power to run, nothing to coordinate with either venue. Most bar mitzvah kits move at least once during the day.
What if there isn't enough footage to cut a film?
You don't pay for the edit. If the kit comes back without enough usable material to cut a film, the editing charge and every add-on are refunded in full. You keep paying only the kit rental — 20% of the package price, less than the rental is worth on its own — because the cameras were held and shipped for a date we couldn't book to anyone else. It's rare, and we show you what came back before we make that call.
